मालिनी पार्थसारथी ने की ‘द हिंदू’ की संपादकीय नीति की आलोचना

‘द हिंदू’ की पूर्व संपादक मालिनी पार्थसारथी ने गत 4 जुलाई के एक ट्वीट के मार्फत अखबार पर पक्षपात का आरोप लगाया और प्रेस की जिम्मेदारी और जवाबदेही की तत्काल आवश्यकता को रेखांकित किया। उन्होंने महाराष्ट्र में राकांपा में हुई बगावत की कवरेज और उस विषय पर लिखे गए संपादकीय की शब्दावली को चिह्नित करते हुए लिखा है:

For those wondering what I meant when I said that the space for my campaign to restore the great legacy of impartial journalism without prejudice @the_hindu was shrinking, here are examples of the biased writing I sought to resist being planted in our columns.

The headline on Page 1 today, saying “NCP lurches” is not bias-free, it gives away the plot right at the start!

Today’s editorial speaks contemptuously of the breakaway group of NCP legislators, calling their act “a smoke and mirrors game”. The last line, the punchline talks of the BJP’s “playbook”. Are there no playbooks for other political parties?

While it’s nobody’s case that one should bat for either side of this game, to be so blatantly prejudiced is against our tradition of neutral commentary.

I am deeply anguished by the departure from our newspaper’s tradition of dignified analysis and sober introspection.

I share this with our well-wishers here on this platform as I know many wishes @the_hindu well and want to see its neutral and balanced presentation of content restored.

What Indian journalism needs urgently is a commitment to producing narratives that are honest, bias-free and open ended in forming conclusions. The reader deserves the best!

‘Editorial views shrinking’: Malini Parthasarathy resigns as The Hindu chairperson

Journalist Malini Parthasarathy has quit as the chairperson of The Hindu Group Publishing, she said in a tweet on Monday, stating that the “space and scope” in the publication for her “editorial views was shrinking”.

Hinting at possible differences with the Board, she said her efforts at the organisation was to free “our narrative” from “entrenched ideological bias”, and the scope for her efforts “has narrowed”.

“My entire endeavour as chairperson and director, editorial strategy, was to ensure that The Hindu Group revives its legacy of fair and unbiased reporting.”

Later in the evening, The Hindu Group Publishing announced that journalist Nirmala Lakshman has been appointed as the chairperson of the group. Lakshman has held senior editorial positions at the publication for decades.

‘Scope for my editorial views shrinking’ – Malini Parthasarathy resigns from the board of The Hindu Group Publishing

On June 5, journalist Malini Parthasarathy announced that she has stepped down from the board of The Hindu Group Publishing Private Limited. She said that while her term as Chairperson of the board is over, she has also resigned from the board. In a statement on Twitter, she hinted at having a disagreement with the board.

In a tweet, Malini wrote, “My term as Chairperson of The Hindu Group Publishing ends. However, I have also resigned from the Board of the THGPPL as I find the space and scope for my editorial views shrinking. My entire endeavour as Chairperson and Director, of Editorial Strategy was to ensure that The Hindu Group revives its legacy of fair and unbiased reporting. Also, my efforts were to free our narrative from entrenched ideological bias. Since I find the scope of my efforts has narrowed, I have decided to move on. I thank all my well-wishers and friends who have supported this challenging journey.”

‘द हिंदू’ मीडिया ग्रुप की चेयरपर्सन मालिनी पार्थसारथी (Malini Parthasarathy) ने विदेश मंत्री डॉ एस जयशंकर पर तंज कसने के लिए भगवान श्री कृष्ण और हनुमान जी का मजाक उड़ाने वाले अपने पत्रकार एस आनंदन को सोशल मीडिया प्लेटफॉर्म ट्विटर पर फटकार लगाई है।

‘द हिंदू’ के पत्रकार एस. आनंदन ने रविवार (29 जनवरी 2023) को ट्वीट कर डॉ. जयशंकर के बयान का मजाक उड़ाया, जिसमें विदेश मंत्री ने कहा था कैसे उन्होंने हिंदू महाकाव्य महाभारत और रामायण से विदेश नीति के गुण सीखे। एस जयशंकर ने दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा डिप्लोमेट भगवान श्री कृष्ण और हनुमान जी (Hanumanji) को बताया था।सोशल मीडिया पर इसका वीडियो भी वायरल हुआ था।

इसमें उन्होंने कहा था, “दुनिया में सबसे बड़े डिप्लोमेट एक भगवान श्री कृष्ण थे और दूसरे हनुमान जी थे। मैं ​आपको बहुत सीरियस उत्तर दे रहा हूँ। अगर आप उनको कूटनीति के परिप्रेक्ष्य से देखें कि वो किस सिचुएशन में थे, उन्हें क्या मिशन दिया गया था, किस तरीके से उन्होंने इसे हैंडल किया था। हनुमान जी तो खुद की इंटेलिजेंस का परिचय देते हुए टारगेट से आगे बढ़ गए और सीता जी से मिले फिर लंका को भी जला दिया।”

इस बयान के बाद ‘द हिंदू’ के पत्रकार एस. आनंदन ने डॉ जयशंकर का अपमान करने के लिए उनसे ट्विटर पर पूछा था कि ‘आईएफएस के किस बैच से ये हिंदू देवता रहे हैं सर? इसके बाद एस. आनंदन के ट्​वीट का स्क्रीनशॉट शेयर करते हुए पार्थसारथी ने सोमवार (30 जनवरी, 2023) को कहा कि इस अपमानजनक ट्वीट का ‘द हिंदू’ समर्थन नहीं करता है।

Hindu: Here's a look at the family tree

Hours after the hasty exit of Siddharth Varadarajan from The Hindu, N Ravi has been named the new editor-in-chief of The Hindu and Malini Parthasarathy the editor.

Kasturi and Sons Limited, the family that runs the newspaper, also announced that N Ram has become chairman of KSL and publisher of The Hindu and Group publications and N Murali, co-chairman of the company. The decisions were taken by the Board of Directors of the Company at its meeting on Monday.

Arun Anant, who was CEO, has also been removed from his position at Kasturi and Sons Limited. Anant had been inducted into The Hindu group at the same time that Siddharth Varadarajan was elevated to the position of editor-in-chief in 2011 from the position of National Bureau Chief of The Hindu.

As The Hindu and TOI take pot shots at each other, Malini Parthasarathy, former executive editor of The Hindu, brings her discontent with the present management online.

“This is why some of us didnt like the tenor of our ad campaign. TOI turns us, the market leader into a follower,” tweeted Malini Parthasarathy, who calls herself, “Former Executive Editor of The Hindu and Director of the company publishing the Hindu group of publications” in her Twitter profile.

On seeing Ms Parthasarathy’s update, Indranil Chowdhury (@Indranil74 on twitter) asks her, “@MaliniP have you joined ToI?” She promptly replies to him, saying “No, I am an owner of The Hindu and want it to succeed, but have been not allowed to participate in the making of its destiny.”

A week ago, Ms Parthasarathy had tweeted (not in the context of The Hindu-Times of India war), “By agreeing to censor tweets,Twitter is digging its own grave. We love Twitter only because of its unfettered freedom!”
